Vitamin D is an essential fat soluble vitamin and its main function is to promote calcium and phosphorus absorption in the gut. Vitamin D deficiency can cause secondary hyperparathyroidism,accelerate bone turnover, and increase bone loss, eventually lead to osteomalacia, osteoporosis, and fracture. Additionally,vitamin D deficiency is associated with muscle weakness and decreased activity, leading to an increased incidence of falls. Scientific and effective supplementation of vitamin D can not only prevent osteoporosis and fractures caused by calcium and phosphorus malabsorption, but also effectively prevent a variety of musculoskeletal diseases. |
