Objective To investigate the changing pattern of bone mineral density (BMD) along with the changes of age, height, weight, and gender by testing BMD in postmenopausal women who were over 60 years old in Bama, Guangxi. Methods Two hundred and fifty-four postmenopausal women who were over 60 years old were selected randomly. BMD of the calcaneus was tested with ultrasound BMD detector (Korea). A SPSS16.0 software was used to analyze the data. Results SI of BMD in postmenopausal women declined along with the increase of age. The prevalence of osteoporosis increased along with the increase of age. SI of BMD was negatively correlated with age while it was significantly positively correlated with weight and height according to Pearson correlation analysis. Conclusion SI of BMD in postmenopausal women who are over 60 years old in Bama, Guangxi is significantly correlated with age, height, and weight. The results of this study provide references for the further studies of the people in longevity regions. |
