Objective To identify the application of probiotics, containing vitamin K2, vitamin D2, and calcium, on prevention and treatment of osteoporosis induced by low calcium intake. Bone mineral density (BMD),bone mineral content (BMC), and ucOC/cOC were used as markers. Methods Female SD rats of 220g-250g were selected and randomly divided into normal group, low calcium group, low dose of probiotics group, and high dose of probiotics group. Eight rats were in each group. BMC and BMD were measured using DEXA at the beginning and at the end of the experiment. Serum ucOC and cOC were also measured. Results Comparing to those in the normal group, BMC and BMD decreased in low calcium group (P<0. 05). Comparing to those in the low calcium group, BMC and BMD increased in groups feeding with low dose or high dose of probiotics (P< 0. 05), and the ucOC/cOC decreased (P < 0. 05). Conclusion The application of probiotics which contains vitamin K2, vitamin D2,and calcium can prevent osteoporosis. |
