Calcitonin was a kind of peptide hormones secreted by thyroid parafollicular cells of thyroid, which contained 32 amino acids, regulatedcalcium and phosphorus metabolism of peptide hormones. Its main physiological role is that calcitonin specifically binds to calcitonin receptor (CTR) on the target cell membrane to reduce the activity of osteoclasts, reduce the number of osteoclasts, and inhibit the absorption of osteoclasts. And it has the effect of stabilizing blood calcium. This paper reviewed the chemical structure of calcitonin, the synthesis and secretion of calcitonin, the physiological effects of calcitonin on osteoclasts, osteoblasts and blood calcium, the clinical significance of experimental research on calcitonin, the experimental research progress of calcitonin, the clinical application of calcitonin and the sharing of research results. Calcitonin has important application value in the treatment of clinical osteoporosis, osteoporotic fractures, and deformable osteitis. |
