Objective To evaluate the incidence and risk factors of sarcopenia in the elderly in community using meta-analysis method. Methods We collected data from database including PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, China Hownet, and Wanfang from their establishment to January 2021. Cohort studies about incidence of sarcopenia and its influencing factors were included. The statistic data are calculated using Review Manager 5.4 and STATA 15.0 software. Results Thirteen articles and 13,750 subjects were included. The results showed that the incidence of sarcopenia was 11%. The incidences of sarcopenia were 6% and 12% at 1-2-year and 3-4-year follow-up, respectively. The incidences in Asian region and in the non-Asian region were 9% and 13%, respectively. They were 16% in women and 11% in men, respectively. In terms of risk factors, advanced age (OR = 1.11, 95%CI: 1.09 - 1.12, P<0.00001), history of stroke (OR = 2.92, 95%CI: 1.60- 5 .31, P=0.0005), low BMI (OR = 1.51, 95%CI: 1.42 - 1.60, P<0.00001), and lack of exercise (OR = 1.44, 95%CI: 1.18 - 1.76, P=0.0003) were important risk factors for community sarcopenia. Conclusion The incidence of sarcopenia in the elderly in community is high. Senior age, low BMI, history of stroke, and lack of exercise are the important risk factors for sarcopenia. |
