Sarcopenia refers to the aging symptom complex with gradual reduction and decline of skeletal muscle mass and strength, which can increase potential falls, fractures and disability, cause serious effects on the function of the patient's body, and greatly reduce the patient's quality of life, even generate poor health outcomes, for instance, death. In order to improve the diagnosis and treatment of sarcopenia, it is vital to select scientific and effective assessment tools. At present, international organizations have not reached a consensus on the diagnostic criteria of sarcopenia, especially in the determination of muscle mass. This paper aims to review and summarize the relevant domestic and international literature, describe the screening process and diagnostic criteria of sarcopenia, focus on muscle mass measurement tools and their advantages and shortcomings, offer reference for the choice and accurate measurement of muscle mass assessment tools. |
