Bone is the master of kidney, the essence resides in the kidney, essence can produce pulp, kidney essence deficiency will lead to the reduction of bone marrow metaplasia, bone loss pulp nourishing, over time is the development of bone wilt. Mitochondria are the "power factories" of life activities. The proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis of human cells depend on the normal function and the normal expression of related signaling pathways of mitochondria. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that Yuan Qi resides in the kidney, depending on sufficient kidney essence, and its functions of leading human growth and development, stimulating metabolism and other life activities are similar to those of mitochondria regulating cell life activities in modern medicine. Kidney, as one of the important organs of body fluid metabolism, is mainly involved in body fluid transport and excretion through gasification function. Its dysfunction will also lead to body fluid transport, thereby obstructing accumulation of sputum. With the recent in-depth research on the relationship between kidney and body fluid, the theory of "kidney phlegm" has gradually gained popular support. "Most diseases are caused by phlegm", with the progress of aging, kidney essence gradually deficient, kidney qi deficiency, will lead to body fluid metabolism disorder and produce "kidney sputum", and then lead to the occurrence of various diseases. Oxidative stress reaction is a risk factor for a variety of diseases. As an important factor affecting the occurrence of oxidative stress reaction, the accumulation of oxidative free radicals is related to the aging of the body. Relevant studies have shown that excessive apoptosis of osteoblasts caused by oxidative stress will lead to increased risk of osteoporosis. The main mechanism is related to the damage of mitochondrial function and the abnormal expression of Wnt/β-catenin and other related signaling pathways. Therefore, sputum and oxidative free radicals have a lot in common in both the generation and pathogenic characteristics. Therefore, this paper discusses the relationship between mitochondrial oxidative stress and osteoporosis based on the theory of "kidney is the root of phlegm".
