Objective To analyze the relevant literature on acupuncture treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis, providing insights for both foundational and clinical research in the field. Methods A search was conducted for all Chinese-language literature on acupuncture treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis in the last 10 years. Acupuncture treatment plans for postmenopausal osteoporosis were compiled and analyzed. Results The literature on acupuncture treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis mainly consists of clinical studies, with limited foundational research. Treatment methods can be broadly categorized into two groups: needle-based approaches, including acupuncture, electroacupuncture, acupoint injection, combination of acupuncture and small needle knife, and combination of acupuncture and herbal medicine; and moxibustion-based approaches, including mild moxibustion, thunder-fire moxibustion, heat-sensitive moxibustion, separated-moxa moxibustion, direct moxibustion, and warm needle moxibustion. Conclusion Acupuncture therapy offers diverse methods for treating postmenopausal osteoporosis, demonstrating significant efficacy and safety. However, issues such as treatment procedures, acupoint compatibility, and needling techniques remain inconsistent, lacking authoritative standards within traditional Chinese medicine. |
