Objective To compare the diagnostic values of three sarcopenia screening tools in hospitalized elderly patients: SARC-F combined with calf circumference (SARC-CalF) , China Mini Sarcopenia Risk Assessment short version (C-MSRA-5) and Ishii score. Methods Elderly patients aged 60 and above admitted to the Endocrinology Department of Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital from June 2020 to February 2023 were selected. According to the 2019 Asian Sarcopenia Working Group criteria, the subjects were divided into a sarcopenia group and a non sarcopenia group. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value(NPV)and area under the ROC curves (AUC) of SARC-CalF, C-MSRA-5 and Ishii score were calculated. We applied the receiver operating characteristic curve to compare the overall accuracy of the three screening tools. Results This study included a total of 301 patients, 105 in the sarcopenia group and 196 in the non sarcopenia group. The sensitivity of SARC-CalF, C-MSRA-5 and Ishii score was 53.3%, 55.2% and 59.0% respectively. The specificity was 70.4%, 50.5% and 74.5% respectively. The PPV was 49.1%, 37.4% and 55.4% respectively. The NPV was 73.8%, 67.8% and 77.2% respectively. The AUC was 0.619, 0.529 and 0.668 respectively. Conclusion The Ishii score is more effective in screening hospitalized elderly patients with sarcopenia than the SARC CalF scale and C-MSRA-5 questionnaire. |
