Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a common degenerative disease in orthopedics, with its incidence increasing year by year, severely affecting the quality of life of the elderly. Ligusticum chuanxiong, a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, has been proven to have therapeutic effects on KOA through clinical and basic experimental studies. Research indicates that the active ingredients of Ligusticum chuanxiong can treat KOA by regulating levels of inflammatory factors, antioxidative stress response, inhibiting chondrocyte apoptosis, and regulating extracellular matrix balance. It suppresses cartilage and synovial inflammation, alleviates pain, delays cartilage degeneration, and restores knee joint function. This article reviews the specific mechanisms of action of Ligusticum chuanxiong active ingredients in treating KOA, summarizes the deficiencies in existing research, and provides new insights for clinical treatment of KOA. |
