| Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) is a common skeletal disorder in postmenopausal women, significantly impairing patients' quality of life and increasing family economic burdens. The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory of Ying-Wei (nutrient-defense system) is closely related to human physiology and pathology. The concept of "dynamic balance and mutual reinforcement between Ying and Wei" (Ying-Wei Jiao-Zhong) reveals the interdependent relationship and harmonious equilibrium between Ying-Qi (nutrient Qi) and Wei-Qi (defensive Qi). From the perspective of Ying-Wei theory, the pathogenesis of PMOP may involve three aspects: deficiency of Ying-blood leading to marrow malnutrition, weakness of Wei-Qi causing immune-inflammatory imbalance, and Ying-Wei disharmony disrupting bone homeostasis. Chinese herbal formulas such as Huangqi Guizhi Wuwu Tang (Astragalus and Cinnamon Twig Five-Substance Decoction), Yupingfeng San (Jade Windscreen Powder), and Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) can improve bone metabolism and alleviate symptoms in PMOP patients through mechanisms including harmonizing Ying-Wei, tonifying kidney-spleen functions, and promoting blood circulation to remove stasis. Exploring PMOP prevention and treatment through the "Ying-Wei Jiao-Zhong" theory holds significant clinical value, offering potential novel strategies and approaches. This perspective may provide new insights for developing therapeutic interventions in clinical practice. |
